Whilst I was on holiday I discovered that Gibralter is a bit funny when it comes to DVD Region’s since they are actually classified as being a Region 2 state, all shops retail Region 1 DVDs as well. I spotted Tears of the Sun there and purchased it, I had heard of it previously in Empire since it is due to be released in the UK soon.
It stars Bruce Willis and Monica Bellucci. Willis plays a SEAL Team Commander, whose assignment is to retrieve Dr Kendricks (Bellucci) from a Catholic mission deep in the Nigerian jungle. Basically Willis convinces Bellucci to leave the mission on the grounds that her patients will also be taken to safety in Cameroon. However Willis has no intention of taking the would be refugees with them. However when the unit see the destruction left by the militia they are forced to do the right thing.
What ensues is sort of obvious pitch battles full of explosions and the usual army bits and pieces. If you liked Black Hawk Down then you will like this. If you are a Bruce Willis fan than you will love this. I liked the Gladiator’esque soundtrack as well, one scene in particular looked as if 2 seconds had been snipped from Gladiator.
