Was heading home from Global Switch, so I grabbed a bus to Canary Wharf to get the Jubilee Line tube rather than getting the DLR to Tower Hill. Funnily enough I ran into Sean, who also making his way home. Sean was telling me about his brand new ST62K which runs totally silent. He knew that I had already sent my old Shuttle back because of the BIOS failure, and I was looking at the new models to work out which to get. Sean was good enough to invite me round to give it a quick once over.
Yikes, it really does run silent where my first thoughts. Immediately I’m thinking perhaps the ST62K is a worthy replacement, however the only problem I could see was the fact it doesn’t have an AGP slot, so I can’t upgrade the graphics card when HL2 finally comes out. However I was sold on the Prescott + Intel’s IGP chipset which after investigation is pretty good. Linux support is also getting there. Shuttle also produce a ST61G4 which features the same chipset in a slight bigger case with PCI and AGP slots. So I think I will be placing an order very soon.
