Monthly Archive for June, 2004

Yikes, has it really been 2 weeks since my last update..

… where do I start. About 2 weeks ago on eBay I bid on an Atari Jaguar with a number of games. Which I subsequently won later that week. A few days later I bid on a couple more auctions for Jaguar games, and managed to get Tempest 2000 and Double Dragon. Have now been trying to get Doom. Luckly just spotted an auction and have placed a bid.

Oooh, it was Kenton’s birthday bash on the 11th which was also a good night out, always good to see APR people, though not everybody made it.

Workwise things have been ticking along, have been tinkering with the Exchange Backup APIs, seems like a fair bit of Voodoo is going to be required. Been doing support and client site work, which is good however it means running around a lot. Hopefully things will start to settle down again next week.

Last month E3 happened, Nintendo unveiled the Gameboy DS and Sony showed off the PSP. Looks like we are going to be getting some hot portables next year, Nintendo have a proven track record, but Sony have some interesting software lined up. Pocket Metal Gear looks pretty good.

Last week also saw the launch of iTMS Europe, so now we in the UK, France and Germany can buy music online. On the first night I got 7 tracks, in fact I made an iMix as well. However it would seem you can’t link to an iMix entry over the web. If you are interested in what I bought seach for ‘fudo’ and you should find the playlist. I have to say I was a little disappointed with the amount of new music on offer, I guess this is because the record companies don’t want to effect single sales. Some of the artist back catalogs on offer are just amazing. I’m going to have to control myself though.

Movie wise, I watched the third Harry Potter movie a couple of weeks ago, it was what I expected, true to the book and the series of movies so far. God knows how long the franchise is going to continue for.

Last weekend I finally took delivery of a EPIA-M motherboard to play with, my main thing is to use it for something like Myth-TV or Freevo, will give both a try. Used Knoppix to get a basic Debian install up and running still try to get kernel 2.6 to drive the TV output properly.

I’m still alive, just about

The last couple of weeks have been hectic. Been up to loads just have not had the time to blog about anything. Normally I stick notes in to a text file, so I can just paste things into here however have been away from my desk most days for the last couple of weeks. I should start using my PDA again for that sort of stuff but that would mean remembering it.

Yesterday I was leaving a client who is based on Southwark Street (right by the Tate Modern actually), London Bridge tube station is 10 minutes in the opposite direction, Blackfairs’ Tube is 10 minutes the other way. Now I was totally knackered, only got about 4 hours sleep the night before, had been doing the same crazy stuff for the last couple of days. (BTW Watching 250GB disks get copied is great fun!)

So I thought I will cross the street and wait for a bus to take me to Waterloo or Holborn. So I wait there for ten minutes, still no bus. So I went into the shop and bought a drink, and waited another couple of minutes. In this time 3 buses went in the opposite direction. So I think I should just walk down to the roundabout for Blackfriars Bridge, just as I get near the train bridge 2 buses go by. this sums up everything for this week.

Movie wise have been doing my weekly cinema trips, watched Troy a couple of weeks back, and The Day After Tomorrow
last week.

Troy was good, the acting was good across the board, I was surprised by Brad Pitt performance was the best I have seen from him in a while. As for ‘The Day After Tomorrow’ I was not expecting too much since I have been disappointed by Emmerich’s last couple of films, however it was a lot better than I expected.
Next big film is Spiderman 2, might go see the new Harry Potter as well.

Going to head to NotCON tomorrow.
