Now when I saw this first mentioned in this morning’s Metro. I sort of jumped for joy, but I quickly realised that the idiots at Office of Fair Trading simply don’t understand how the majority of American computer hardware software companies make their money. Apple like many others have loosely applied the $99 -> £99.
If they go after Apple they should go after every single Non-British technology company.
Now I would love for pricing to fall in line however you have to remember that the UK market is small. On top of which due to are standard of living or the high cost of living (probably more correct) companies can get away with charing more. This is simple economics really. The fact is simple 79p a track is still a bargain when compared to CD single prices. ( I also think they haven’t realised that the majority of that 79p actually doesn’t go to Apple anyway!)
Why are they not investigating the music labels? Hmm, I suspect this will all be cleared up quite quickly however the OFT are after all the same people that spent more than a year investigating Sega and Nintendo only to do decide that console game pricing was fair when people everywhere was saying it wasn’t.
