Was driving upto Bradford on friday evening for the weekend, we got on the road at about 8pm, we where at the start of the M1 at about 8:45pm after fuelling up, topping the oil and water up. We went about 20 minutes then released that the steering was pulling a little to the left so we had to pull into services to get the tyres sorted. After about 10 minutes we were back on the road.
Now we were whizzing by nicely, we did 80 miles in about an hour, then we hit a big problem. Junctions 20-21 was restricted to 1 lane due to a bridge being fractured, the tail back was about 20 miles. To make things worst our car started playing up just as we hit the queue. I think the immediate slow down caused the temperature gauge to jump upto the 100 C mark. Resulting in the engine shuddering, we pulled into the hard shoulder and had a look at the engine. Checked the oil and water again. So we sat there waiting for the temperature to fall a bit before joining the queue.
Once we were in the queue it took about 2 hours to get past the road works. So we pulled into services to grab a bite to eat, since we had planned on being in Bradford by 11pm. We got back on the road at about 11:30pm, all was well until Sheffield were a down pour started, now normally this wouldn’t be a problem except that after about 5 minutes of activating the wiper, the wiper blade decided to break. So every five minutes of driving we had to pull into the hard shoulder to fix the wiper. We arrived at my Aunt’s house at 2:15am. This run normally takes us 3 hours door to door.
