Thunderbird For Mac OS X

Just switched to using Thunderbird for a bit on the Mac, I have to say I’m quite impressed with the completeness of the Mac version. I use Thurderbird as my default client at work for ages however I only just got around to playing with the Mac version. The only thing I’m missing is a converter tool for the system address book. I’m guessing there is an extension in development.

The main driver for the move was although I was satisfied with Apple’s Mail, except it doesn’t give the option to store saved messages in IMAP folders. So sent items where stored locally only. Really annoying when you need to reference a sent item when I’m another computer.

National Treasure

Just watched National Treasure since I had nothing better to do this boxing day. Not sure, the film was okay nothing amazing, probably worth watching if you want to go see an action adventure yarn. It wasn’t Indiana Jones if you get what I mean however it did have enough of that sort of element to keep you watching. Nick Cage was okay not a particularly difficult part for him to play.

Diana Kruger is cast as a history toff who Heads up the National Archives, highly unlikely simply because of age and looks, but I guess we can forgive the casting people for that. Sean Bean plays the bad guy, and Jon Voight plays Cage’s father.

The film did however spark some interest for me on the whole thing about Free Masons and the Knight Templars, no doubt I will be google’ing for more info on this topic. One thing is for sure is that the soundtrack is definately from Trevor Rabin since it is basically the Armeggedon Theme done up slightly.

V3 and Mac OS X

Found out a couple of things I hadn’t quite realised prior to purchasing the V3. iSync will only work with the cable, which I guess I can live with however the Addressbook integration with the phone does not work. I hope Apple resolves this in the next update, fortunately there is a third party app which works pretty well. BluePhoneElite which lets me send SMS from the desktop and gives call alerts whilst working.

New Phone

Just got the Motorola V3 Razr today as an upgrade on my Orange contract. Had a bit of a play on a friend’s handset a couple of weeks back and was quite impressed. So far so good just left it charging so far, about to head to the airport to see off my cousin. Will have to update the gadget s page again. Should really finish of the other pages as well at some point. Then again Christmas and the New Year is upon us so I could leave it till the break.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events

Watched Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events last night, now this is an amazing film, my next most favourite film this year after Big Fish. The fantasy story telling element was impressive it even felt like a Tim Burton film in places. Jim Carrey was great playing the evil Count Olaf, probably one of his better roles. The other suppporting actors included Billy Connelly and Meryl Streep who both did a good job.

The leads played by Emily Browning and Liam Aitkin were brilliant. I think these two are leagues ahead of other child actors on the scene. I think they walk all over the Potter Pack, I think we will be seeing more of these young actors in the future. The star in my opinion was the youngest of the three children, Sunny a toddler whose lines are subtitled into the film cleverly. I think she had some of the best gags.

This is a must see! Go now and watch it.

On another note this was my first cinema trip after my treatment, it was absolutely amazing. We went to the Kensington Odeon, which was showing it on Screen 1, the massive screen, even though only about 20 people were there for the late showing. I didn’t have to deal with silly reflections of my glasses.

Blade Trinity

Watched Blade : Trinity last week, now this was bit of strange film in the sense that the film felt different to the prequels. Having said that it seemed like it was better than the second film, though I’m not totally sure.

The NightStalkers are introduced which is nice however I don’t know if they ever went up against Dracula in the comics. It will be interesting to see if they do another Blade film since I think Wesley Snipes is really enjoying the franchise, it is a shame because he has shown himself to be a fairly competant actor he just doesn’t seem to get the roles.

A definate action film must see, especially if you liked the first film, but didn’t like the second one because they were stretching a bit with the super hydrid vampire concept. There is no doubt in my mind you will forget the film within a couple of weeks because it is not really a long term memory film. Which is good because in 3 years time when it is on TV you will actually enjoy watching it again. Keep an eye out for the blatant product placement for the iPod.

I Can See Clearly Now…

… that I have had my eyes lasered. Yeap last Saturday I got by eyes treated with the Lasik surgery. My vision has returned to 20/20. I have been wearing glasses for 14 years. Thank god there were no complications, my right eye was slightly bruised however it has now started to heal and the blood spot in my eye has gone. Have to wear plain glasses for protection for another week, then I can be free from glasses, until I reach my 40’s were it is inevitable I will need reading glasses.

The feeling is great I can see perfectly, I had been thinking about getting the treatment for some time however I feared that there would be problems with looking at computer screens after the treatment because I had heard some scare stories on the internet. However my vision at the keyboard is better than it has ever been. One thing I have done is reduced the resolution I work at so that I don’t screw up my eyes too soon.

I would recommend the treatment to anyone that is able to have the treatment, I know there can be problems for people with really bad vision to begin with. Night Vision problems are also common, thankfully I have always had good night vision, not suffered from light halos or glare.
