My brother and I went down to the Tiger store for the Launch Event, but we didn’t get in till after about 7.30pm so we missed the live event stuff, I got 4 free iTMS vouchers which is not bad I suppose, a new Powerbook or iPod would have been nice.
I spent a fair amount of time playing with Tiger at the store, I was quite impressed with the Dashboard and Spotlight. It will be interesting to see how applications like QuickSilver will evolve to co-exist with Spotlight. Whilst I make this entry on my PC the install is just finishing, so I’m going to get on and have a proper play now.

Well there are only a few days left to the arrival of Tiger, so I set about cleaning up my Powerbook in preparation. Not quite sure of the install options yet, but I’m assuming that there is going to be an upgrade facility. Just to be safe though I’m going to backup all of my libraries and important files on to the file server. Not expecting many problems but you never know, most of the apps I use are being updated or have already been updated, so I was just checking them out as well.

Watched The Interpreter last night, a very interesting film, not quite what I was expecting. Thought it was going to turn into a “Peacemaker’ like film. The plot is pretty good, performances from Kidman and Penn are both top rate. The story does takea bit of time to unravel, but it is definately worth the it.

The muppets at BT managed to knock out my DSL connection whilst de-activating one of my lines. This was planned work, move the DSL connection from one line to the other, with a please make sure the other line has DSL activated before you terminate the old one. But no, the old line terminated on 01/04, but when I switched the router over to the other phone socket no connection. (Which I sort of expected really.) So I rang BT the next day, they fog me off to my ISP plusnet, who tell me they will take it up with BT on my behalf (Actually they did do a good job, they always contacted me when they said they would, and their web support system is so good I’m going to model it.) It looks like BT took the original action to mean that the activation process was to begin on 01/04, rather than be complete by 01/04 oh well.
So it has taken 10 days to get my connection back, hence why I have not been making many posts or anything else really.
It is amazing how dependant my household has become on the internet, we all do practically everything online, because it is so easy. Tried use the local Hot Spot for a couple of hours at the weekend for the past 2 weekend, however there is only so much you can do. I have a couple of posts in draft which I have just hit publish on.

.. it has now been a week since we lost our connection. Can’t work from home, can’t check data center servers in the off hours, can’t order pizza (not online anyway), can’t download this weeks episode of 24, no new music, no ITMS, no nothing. Tried hooking up the modem on thursday evening, wasn’t bad for a few essential e-mails, but for browsing I just couldn’t use it. Felt unholy, or wrong. Praying that we get our free regrade to 2MB soon. BT are sticking with their 10-14 day quote time for activating the line.
I’m currently in Starbucks, on my third coffee. Might go see the Ring 2 tonight, or might just go home and watch DVDs don’t know yet, will ring around and see what people are upto tonight.

..is not so cool. Watched the ‘Get Shorty’ follow up last night, and I have to say I was not impressed at all. The film isn’t bad, the acting in places is quite good, the story is not bad either, just the way they have made the film just seems wrong. The pace is just silly, things seem to just happen, and the linkage between the characters is obvious, and the ending is pretty much predictable from the outset.

Was a little apprenhesive about watching this at first, thought it was going to be crap. However it is quite a good rom com. Will Smith I guess is always a 50/50 kind of guys he makes some okay films, but the majority just get on your nerves. (Bad Boys films being the exception since they are good action flicks.) The Sci-Fi films are MiB and Independance day are okay I suppose, Wild Wild West was just crap.
Any how Hitch is quite funny, Will Smith plays the ‘Date Doctor’ who actually has bigger problems of his own. Eva Mendes is amazing, and plays a journalist who is out to expose the ‘Date Doctor’ not knowing that her love interest, Smith is actually the ‘Date Doctor’.
Definately worth watching regardless of wether you like these sort of films or not, since it will put a smile on your face, even for a few moments.
