Some other things about Stockholm

Another thing I noted whilst in Stockolm was that there seems to be a lot of cycle accidents in 2 days I witnessed 4 accidents. I guess the main reason for this is the old cobbled roads in part of the city.

The worst one was that some crazy man was trying to go along the side of a bus, he sort of got squeezed and thrown from his bike and landed on a set of metal sidings, oouch!

Another accident was a teenage girl, who went partially over the handlebars then to the side hitting a parked car. This was because of the small cobbled road in Gamla Stan.

Stockholm : Some observations

Just a quick summary of some of the things I encountered in Stockholm.

The Good Things

  • Has a great transport system. You can get from one place to the other fairly quickly, and you can even walk around which is great. I did a fair amount of walking whilst I was in Stockholm. The trains runs from 7am to 3am most days.
  • Bars and clubs are open till 5am.
  • The European money rule seems to apply for most things everything is cheaper, except for drink which costs a fortune.

The Strange Things

  • There are alot of transvestites around Stockholm, and they wonder around like normal people, during the day. I was standing on a tube platform during the late saturday afternoon. When I see this guy walking towards me, at this point all I could see was his hair and his face since he was towering over a crowd of people that stood in the way. The first thing I noticed was his beard and makeup, as he turned his head I see a pony tail. Ok at this point I’m not freaking out, as the crowd clears and a bunch of American tourists also notice this guys and start giggling, that I see that he is wearing a thigh high mini-skirt. At this point even I think WTF, I think he also got a little agitated with the giggles and decided to walk down the platform. What I don’t get is why he hadn’t shaved the beard and moustache, because that would atleast not make him stand out.
  • Whilst lounging about in cafes and walking around the city during the day I noticed that there seem to be a lot of bin raiding going on in Stockholm, now these are not like your normal raiders these guys are well dressed men and women, looking for newspapers and other bits. Perhaps they have an active re-cycling program. Maybe they get money for these items, or it could be that there social security system actually works and keeps there homeless people at least smartly dressed. I don’t know.

The Bad Things

  • Well I couldn’t actually think of anything bad, except for the problem with the Sun being up for so long during the summer, but I guess that is a problem with the whole of Scandinavia.

I’m Back

Just got back from Stockholm, nothing new to report. Back at work in the morning, kind of tired so it is probably a good idea to get some sleep soon. Just wanted to post this and also set the backlog of posts to published.
