Watched Tom Cruise’s third outing as Ethan Hunte late last night, yes I watched Misson Impossible 3. Still in a mixed mood about this. I mean I liked it however in constrast it is quite different to the two previous films. JJ Abrams from Alias and Lost fame is responsible. Infact the first 10 minutes feels like a section from Alias, a little all over the place with so much going on. The acting in places is dreadful, which I guess is not Tom’s fault really. Simon Pegg makes an appearance as the tech guy at IMF, which was a little funny.
Like I was saying I still have not decided if this film is good or bad. The action element is pretty damn good, the fight sequence are great everything you would want from an action movie, but at the same time something was missing. Which I can’t quite put my finger on. Some elements of the story were also quite poor, now that I think about it. Abrams must have been a big Mission Impossible fan, since the elaborate mission sequences in Alias are just like those encountered in the MI films. The main plot of MI3 is a love story, which does seem a little stretched. Tom’s love interest is played by Michelle Monaghan who does a good job.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman plays the bad guy, and in fact is the high light of the film in my mind. Billy Crudup and Lawrence Fishboune also star in this film, important roles but nothing significant in terms of what they are capable off. Ving Rhames also stars, reprising his role as Luther the tech agent on Tom’s crew. The team also has some hot asian chick and the guy from Bend It Like Beckham.
Watch this film if you like MI2, but I have to say I don’t think it was as good as MI2. Is this film any good, it’s okay there are both better and worse films out there. Most people will probably enjoy this film, will you remember for more that a couple of days probably not.
